What Is Biodiversity?

Biodiversity is nature in all its diverse living forms. This does not mean that biodiversity is only a list of organisms but it also includes their interactions with each other and their environment. IBSAR, AUB

Ultimately, biodiversity is the basis of our existence. The alternative to nature conservation is, quite simply, the end of life on Earth as we know it. If the system breaks, vegetation is lost. Can you imagine Planet Earth with no plants?

Cedar Wings Magazine. Discover Lebanon.  Interview with Ibsar. Issue # 93 / June-July 2006.

Biodiversity is not about plants and animals in nature but it is also about us:

We are part of biodiversity we belong to the cycle that links all living organisms. This cycle links the smallest bacteria to the largest tree, and community has stories that illustrate this point of how interconnected biological organisms are (including man).

Did you know that the seed of the juniper tree will not germinate unless the juniper fruit is eaten by a bird and the seed is later excreted? What stories have you think of?

-IBSAR, AUB

Biodiversity in Lebanon is unique:

Lebanon is one of those few places in the world that have been inhabited by man on a continuous basis for millennia.
That means that our ancestors and the other 10,000 species or so of animals, plants, and other living organisms have coexisted with one another for thousands of years.
