Course Description

Mosaic Drapery with most delicious Lebanese recipes and meals!

Learn how to create beautiful folds of clothing starting with watercolor and finish it with glass. Using the direct technique you will create detailed painterly images using different materials.
The course will include an introduction to watercolor, the medium that will help you create most beautiful mosaics.

We will start this class with a short demo explaining the way you can invent your own still life model of drapery and undulations with scarfs and fabrics. Designs with pencil will follow.
Having our canvas ready, we will start learning about watercolor. Even if you have never painted, this exercise will be very helpful for any future project. Some practices on watercolor papers will be done previous to final painting.

We will talk a little about Andamento and will start mosaicking working with different kind of glass using the double wheeled nippers.
We will study the colors on each of the designs, and as each piece will be unique, each student will try to draw his or her own andamento to help make adding the right colors in the right place easier.
Your substrate will be a canvas size 8 x 10 inches.
We will be using Weldbond as the adhesives working with the Direct Technique.

I will do a demonstration of cutting tesserae with wheeled nippers, using different materials like Smalti and Kismets glass.
We will keep on mosaicking, working on Andamento, colors and trying to add all final touches to the mosaic.

If you wish to use shells, beads, or some semi-precious stones or jewelry, please bring them with you and we can include them in the art piece.
Several slide shows will be presented during the workshop.

While working on this project, and because students asked for this part after tasting Carole's meals in previous classes, we will be cooking everyday for our lunches. A special time will be given to share recipes, demonstrate and cook Lebanese meals in an easy way to fit our busy days.
Discover some spices, herbs and plants used in the Lebanese cuisine, learn how you can use them in your meals here in the US.

If you wish to observe only, you are welcome.
A recipe book will be distributed including a list of stores where you can find ingredients for your future meals.

Carole will be awarding each person who attends her workshop with a hand signed Certificate to commemorate the occasion.
