Course Description
Work with the Direct and Indirect techniques to end up with a bas-relief finish reflecting the light of some smooth and some other textured spaces
The course will include the use of both techniques: Direct technique and the Byzantine Indirect Technique.
There will be an introduction to watercolor, the medium that will help you create most beautiful mosaics.
We will start our project by a quick drawing/stencil of abstract design. If you have any design in mind, please bring it with you so we can apply it to our canvas.
After the drawing, watercolor will be the key to choose your colours of your glass. Even if you have never painted, this exercise will be very helpful for any future project. Carole has taught many beginners, some practices on watercolor papers will be done previous to final painting.
Once the watercolor is done, each student will draw the Andamento and pick the correct colors of glass for their work.
In this class we are going to choose areas that will be working on with each different technique separately.
We will learn how to make your own ancient Honey Paste recipe. The recipe will be shared. This is temporary glue that we will use to glue all our tesserae in the reverse method.
Mosaic work will start using the Byzantine indirect technique using all kind of glass and other materials using the double wheeled nippers
Carole will demonstrate different cutting techniques and the tricks to using double wheeled nippers. From there on, we will continue working on our mosaic, and Carole will provide hands-on guidance.
While working, an introduction to some levels of Bas-relief will be created. This will allow more reflection of the light on different areas in the mosaic.
Either working direct or indirect, the process of each work will be different with each project. The casting of the indirect technique comes once each student needs it.
There will be a lot of excitements to see how the revealing of those pieces of indirect techniques comes up either flat or over the bas-relief substrate created.
Carole will share the secrets of this special twist of techniques for the first time!
The workshop language will be in English. Carole also speaks French and Arabic.
Carole will be awarding each person who attends her workshop with a hand signed Certificate to commemorate the occasion.
